"What was that?" asked Makoto.

Usagi stopped inhaling food long enough to hear a scream coming from 
outside Makoto's apartment.

"It must be a Daimon! Quick, transform and call the others!" said Luna.

"Right!" Minako said as she reached into her pocket dimension for her 
transformation pen. Holding it in the air, she yelled,

"VENUS STAR POWER, MAKE-UP!"

Nothing happened.

"N-Nani?!" stuttered Minako.

"Quick, Minako-chan, let me see your transformation pen!" 
said Luna. Minako placed it in front of Luna. The cat concentrated
for a moment. Then her eyes shot wide open. "I don't believe it! It's 
run out of power! Something's drained it dry!"

[Flashback]

Minako is writing a letter to a friend with her transformation pen.

[Flashback]

Minako is doodling with her transformation pen.

[Flashback]

Minako is writing an essay in detention with her transformation pen.

[Flashback]

Minako is frantically scribbling with her transformation pen, trying to 
get ink to come out.
